How often should you clean your apartment?

Weekly, every other week or monthly? The right rhythm for an apartment depends more on the household living in it than on how many rooms it has.

The rhythm follows the household

How often should you clean your apartment with professional help? There is no single answer by size. A small apartment shared by two people, a dog and frequent guests can need more attention than a larger one lived in quietly by one person. The questions that matter are how quickly the kitchen and bathroom need attention again, and how much of your own time you want to spend keeping up.

Our three rhythms, and the households each one tends to suit, are below. Each regular visit covers the same scope whatever the rhythm; only the gap between visits changes.

Weekly

Weekly visits suit busy homes with children, pets or frequent guests, where a week is long enough for the kitchen and bathroom to need attention again. If you cook most nights, host often or share the apartment, weekly keeps it from building up.

Every other week

Every other week balances a consistently clean home against how often someone is in it, and it is where many households start. It suits an apartment that is lived in normally, where you handle small daily tidying and want the kitchen, bathroom and floors properly done on a steady schedule.

Monthly

Monthly visits work for smaller or quieter homes that stay tidy between cleans, such as an apartment lived in by one person who is often out. Between visits, the day-to-day upkeep is yours; the monthly visit resets the kitchen, bathroom and floors.

Why the first visit is usually a deep clean

If the apartment has not had a professional clean in the last 30 days, the first visit is normally planned as a deep clean. It brings the home to a baseline that regular visits can then hold, so each later visit maintains rather than restores. Starting on a regular visit instead is possible only when you confirm a recent professional clean and acknowledge the choice when the visit is confirmed.

Changing the rhythm later

There are no contracts, and the rhythm can change later with notice. Changes to a scheduled visit need 48 hours' notice to avoid a fee; a later change carries a fee based on the booking total, higher inside 24 hours, and the exact terms are set out in writing before your first visit. The same cleaners are scheduled whenever operations allow, although it cannot be promised for every visit.

What each regular visit covers

Whatever the rhythm, a regular visit covers the kitchen counters, sink and stove top, the outside of the fridge and microwave, the bathroom from toilet to mirror to floor, dusting of reachable surfaces, floors vacuumed and mopped, and beds made with your own linens, with targeted high-heat steam on the sink, shower, tub and toilet fixtures. The full list is on the recurring house cleaning page. If you are unsure which rhythm fits, say so in the notes when you request a clean and we will talk it through with you.
